My question for this assignment would be "What is a family? And what makes a family unique?"

I think your question is good but try to make it seems to broad. Maybe a good question could be What makes a true best friend? And what are the expectations of a true friend? Or if you don't think that's a big help then maybe try your best to expand on your question. I'm looking forward to reading your research paper :]

Your question i believe is a good research question and your statements are true also about how easy it is to make a friend now and days. And i agree with Arden that the poem you have is good i like it a lot and i cant connect to that poem because all those reasons for a friend fits me and i bet a lot of different people. Overall good research question im looking forward to reading your paper.

I dont believe its 100% accurate because it has some of the qualities that i believe that i have but not all of the qualities. Like from what the results said it stated that Desires to be of service and to minister to individual needs and i believe that sometimes i can fit those qualities depending on my day. Overall i believe its more like a horoscope then accurate it just states what they think who people are. Horoscopes are more like an assumption and when it relates to somebody when they read it they feel glad about themselves. But when results aren't accurate people try to change themselves in order to fit the results that the survey has provided to them.

Now for Part 2 for HW 54 i asked my mom to take the test and i thought she would of been more ISTP but im wrong but the last letter because when she sat down and took the test her results came out as ISTJ. And i would say appreciate difference because when you think that your similar to a lot of different people like friend's personality wise and then you look at the results you finally come to a conclusion that your not that similar at all and that everybody is different in their own ways.

HW 53

In all honesty it felt pretty okay sharing my privacy to everyone even though it was completely anonymous. But i know for sure that some of the questions really did make me think. Like for some of the questions i sat there for about 4 minutes trying to see how to answer the certain question, so i had to question myself for a bit and think. And then i picked the best answer that suited me well.

The interesting scores were in the people who drink, and the one the said do you use protection during safe sex which were surprising because if you know the majority of the people in our school and compare the scores between the 11th and 12th grades then you would know that the scores don't match up correctly. The patterns that i noticed were that the more positive stated questions were answered positively but the more deeply asked questions about yourself were mostly lied about or people didn't really feel like answering. Only surprises were was with the scores of the safe sex,the drug usage, and the drinking one. Some people like hiding their true self even though they know that its anonymous but people still like hiding their true selves even behind a computer.

The differences in the other survey (YRBSS) is that i felt that more people were telling the truth in that survey compared to our survey and i also feel that the questions were more engaging which made people answer more honestly. All these scores between our survey and the YRBSS survey is that the scores are scary for people carrying weapons to school and during fights its dangerous you never know what might happen. And for the most part people never take this kind of stuff into consideration and just ignore it.

HW 52

First off let me start off with the theory of love and humans. In my opinion i believe that of course everybody tries to find love in their life no matter what, but it seems like it takes a while to find that right one. Humans hate being alone is like being kept in a closed room with nothing it in but the walls surrounding you and that's it, if somebody was put through that they would go completely insane. So we must find somebody in our life that we can hopefully spend forever with. Which leads to my next theory friends.

Friends is what almost every human should have in order to not only be happy but whole. From what my previous theory stated which was "Humans hate being alone is like being kept in a closed room with nothing it in but the walls surrounding you." We all need a sort of group of people to feel protected, like the cavemen always walked around in groups for safety. With a group of people not only do you feel protected but you also feel welcomed and most of all not alone. Which leads to my next theory family.

We all have a family,none of us are born without one. We grow with our parents and they watch over us until were old enough to know right from wrong, and then we start our own family and the cycle continues. A family is like a huge group of friends you can say but more safer and honest(depends on your family...) and they also make you feel welcomed. Family are there to protect you and to lead you in the right way. And on new years always a routine is to spend time with family. And every holiday is for family. And if we don't follow that routine were bad people or as people may call it "ditching" our family.

Now power is a different theory then the other three in a way even though they kind of tie back to most of them. We all want power to feel like were on top of the world and to feel like we rule everybody. Its kind of a greed situation. People feel good about themselves with power, for instance those people in the streets with their pit bulls acting tough because they have a dog with them. Those people try to scare people with the power(the dog)so people wont mess with them. Its all a use of fear and power combined.

My last theory will be on roles. Every person on this planet has a specific role it might be a parent a brother or anything in between but all in all with all have roles. And of course we all try to live up to these roles and if we fail at doing so we get degraded by other people who notice. Like giving up a seat to a pregnant lady and if you don't get up to get stared by every person in the train car or bus. But we all have roles to live up to, to give a us a certain characteristic of who we are on the outside. Without a specific role who will be?

HW 49

My personal contribution to the teacher film was to be like one of those people who are just sitting there and talking and just making stupid noises basically. The message and tone of my section's film was pretty much a strong tone since the teacher(Will) was basically cursing, and making fun of most of the students in the class.

I can most likely say that the message was basically that the students were trying to be cool of course and also trying to help the teacher out but the teacher didn't accept there help at all. Reason being was because he was drunk mostly of the time so he could of cared less about the students.

Well with all the student/teacher films that we've watched in class it was pretty much different in a sense because in our student/teacher film the teacher was drunk and started putting the students down. But in most of the films that we watched the teachers almost always try to help the students and change them into different people. In the films the students were "ghetto" in a sense and tried to over rule the teachers but most of the time in the end the students change into different people. Like in Freedom Writers the students were low lives and then they started to open up more and change.

The connection between salvation and schooling in our culture is big because in our school there is a lot of higher power and even outside our school like the board of education of course. And in schools of course the principals would of course be considered the highest power because he has control of the students and of course of the teachers. What ever he says goes. But the board of education of course is much more higher than him, then comes the chancellor Joel Klein. Which all control the schools.

HW 45

From my understand of both texts it seems to me that Hirsch believes that schools should teach students about more than enough stuff when their in elementary school before they hit high school. Hirsch said in the an article,"not every child is learning about James Monroe in the first grade." Which i agree with because not even i know who James Monroe is. And then for Sizer he believes basically that teachers should make things somewhat easier for the students but not to easy of course because then what would be the point of learning from mistakes. Sizer said in Horace's Compromise " Keep the structure simple and thus flexible." Basically stating that teachers should make the structure of their class of course easy but understanding.

Yes both Sizer's and Hirsch's theories both contradict each other because Sizer wants teachers to make their structure simple but flexible like he stated in Horace's and Compromise. But on the other hand Hirsch says that he thinks that teachers should be teaching their students more facts in first grade so that they basically know more than what they should know. If they both adapted together they should both work out hopefully because then students would do better at school than what students are doing now. Students are usually lost when it comes to politics because they sometimes use metaphors in place of things and a kid who watches it is completely perplexed. But if Hirsch and Sizer come together as a whole students would basically have a better understanding of things. And understand what the hell is going around them instead of them being dumbfounded.

HW 44

I feel that Thomas Friedman was right in a way because the Obama administration like he said is only good at listening but not good at responding back to questions. And that Obama dropped the education that he told the kids he would help make schools better for them but instead he went into a different category. Obama went to the health care stuff even though health care is really important but he should kept the promise he made to the kids at least. And then from the health care plan he went right into the bailout since we were in a somewhat depression which was helper in a way at least.

I agree that we do need more than one school system and that it would be pretty understanding. Like they said in the article that having a school for students and then another one for entrepreneurs would be pretty helpful which varies between different people. And us students are like employees in school just learning how to become employees in the future. And we go to school to get high grades in order to get a high paying job in the future which will benefit us in the long run.

I agree school is like a starting point for everybody. Also school has a disciplinary code you must follow always. If you dis obey the rule you get in trouble with the principal. It all depends on the school and the teacher who keeps control of the kids. Like in the movie freedom writers the kids were out of control at first then the teacher kinda pretty much took charge of the class. The school didn't know how to handle kids because the teachers weren't trained to deal with overly disrespectful kids. And where the school is at also effects how the students act like in the bad part of the bronx kids in that certain school will be going crazy then a couple of kids from nyc.

This guide i believe should be read by students who seem to have a hard time concentrating and school and who seem to get bored easily in school. These hints are semi-helpful in a way depending on the student and what he likes to do best in his days at school.

This article talks about how school is in Japan and the rules they must follow in their school. Japan's rules are much stricter than the schools in the United States. This website is good for students who should know they have it easier than the kids in Japan.

This website also informs how they must dress, and how they must clean the school everyday after school for at least 15 minutes. Also they have what they call a "big clean up at least twice every term." They treat their school just how they treat their home. Clean and respectful. Kids in the united states don't have to clean their schools and make them spic and span they just throw shit on the floor and spit and piss outside the urinal. Make it a dirty environment everyday.

This article talks about depression in school and how teachers learn to handle with kids dilemma and other problems. And this one kid had depression and he said how he tried not to disrespect his teachers but they just ignored him because they probably knew of his problem.

I think kids should read this article because he talks about how students are and how teachers deal with students problems. And its kind of sad that teachers ignore that problems of student depression because it could possibly turn into something worse. Oh well probably teachers don't care

HW 40

Part A - Interviewing

1Q) Do you think school is based on hierarchy?
1A)Me: Yes i believe so because of course teachers have higher priority over students and then principals have more power than students and teachers. Like always when ever you make a complaint to the principal about a teacher the principal never believes you and takes the damn teachers side...

2Q)Is school mandatory?
2A)Mom: Yes school is mandatory because without an education your not going to become anybody in life, your going to be like these hoodlums who hangout in the middle of our block selling drugs and end up in jail or dead.

3Q)Are we our teacher's puppets?
3A)Uncle: Well from what you explained to me i can somewhat kind of see that you kids are controlled by your teachers just like how puppets are controlled by their ventriloquist or by their puppeteer. But in all teachers do control their students by making them do their homework or they'll fail.

4Q)Why is school so boring?
4A)Cousin(High school grad.): School is mostly boring because all you basically do is sit on a chair in a class for 50 or so minutes long and do nothing but hear the teachers talk about boring stuff that nobody ever cares about. And your there just listening in school for 8 hrs straight. It gets boring after a while and they wonder why students never do their homework because classes are damn boring.

5Q)Why are you graded by how good you do on test and homework instead of being graded on your willingest on trying?
5A)Friend: Because teachers are there to try to make you fail and to make your life a living hell. They don't care if you pass or not they care on their pay check in the end. If you fail you fail if you pass you pass. If you get held back they don't care their still getting paid. (Person had a rough week i asked for a sincere answer.. guess not)

Part B:

I really think that students shouldn't be graded on how good they do on test or on homework that they do but on their willingest to try. For the simple fact because if we fail test and score low on homework that means that we will fail that class which sucks for us students who don't understand anything that's going on or who try to understand but the teacher doesn't explain the work well enough. It happens to a lot of students which is why a lot of students have summer school,missing credits, or sadly get left back which sucks for a lot of them.

HW 39 - First School Assignment

Part A:

Questions:
1)Why do teachers teach us stuff that we may not need in our future lives? Why not teach us something we will use in our lives?
2)Is school a way for our parents to relax without us? Teachers being our babysitters?
3)Why our we as people graded by our grades and not by our potential to do things?

Experiences:
1)Seeing couples eating each others face in the halls
2)Seeing people listening to their ipod in class while the teacher is teaching
3)People changing their attitude from when the teacher is there until the principal walks in (higher power, hierarchy??)

Interesting:
1)People being the most absurd in the hallways while classes are in session
2)People cursing teachers out and the teachers just letting it happen
3)People smoking inside of school bathrooms and getting caught

Part B:
What's the most awful thing about school is that your sitting in class starring off into space listening to the teacher babble for about close to an hour. It's the most boring part of class. The classes are so long and your sitting in the most uncomfortable seats ever, for example like in chemistry class your sitting on those stools that hurt our ass and back for about an hour; slouching over to write on the lab benches while the teachers have a comfortable seat in class. Also the disciplines in school is crazy your basically have no freedom what so ever to do mostly anything, you only have like 50 minutes of free time to yourself which is only during lunch and after that its back to this crazy jail, locked up for another 110 minutes(1 hour and 50 minutes).
The consequences in school are sometimes outrageous for the simple fact because if you get in trouble by a teacher and you want to explain to the principal that the teacher didn't see the other student or whatever the case maybe, the principal will never believe you and go only by what the teachers say. It somewhat like a court house but an unlawful one of course. Or if you get into a fight at school with a girl lets say in an argument or whatnot the principal will always go for the girls side just like the police would in a situation like that. In closing school's consequences are the most unfair shit ever and somewhat worse than the police law but not that extreme. Lets hope that it never gets that extreme...

Hw 38

What makes this picture cool is that when people see the car going down the street people's heads always turn. And seeing a lamborghini in the city is a real shocker because you rarely see lamborghini's driving down the streets or on a highway in new york. I want people to realize while they see my art is basically that a lamborghini in the city is really cool because we all know that a lamborghini is really expensive and a fast car also, so the person driving the car will get a lot of credit and also attract a lot of attention from girls.

What made me pick this image for my art project is that i know that when people see a lamborghini their heads will turn. The reason why this car is cool is because of the speed and the way that the doors open and lastly because of the price value of the car; which runs for about $130,000-180,000 or more.

It depends sometimes art will seem cool to me and sometimes it wouldn't. For me though it depends on what the piece of art is showing if its something that interests me then i would think its cool. Like for example a picture of a guitar would seem cool to me depending on the qualities the guitar has and on the looks and the price range of it.

HW 32

Tattooing alone means sometimes a lot depending on the person who got the tattoo in first place. Like for instance people who get like they’re whole body tattoo like the Lizard Man for example got his whole body tattooed of course for attention and maybe also for attraction. Most importantly though some people get tattoos for meanings like a person could get a tattoo of their mothers name which would probably signify that the person loves their mother, or somebody may get their child’s name and date of birth on their body signifying that they care/love their child a lot. Like Mr. Fanning for example stated that some of the tattoos he got had certain meanings throughout his life and some of them were there for attention. Overall though it depends on the person to depict on what a certain tattoo signifies.

The gendering of tattooing is weird in a sense like getting a tattoo on your arm if you’re a man proves you’re macho; while a girl can get a tattoo near hear bikini line, on her ankle and on her lower back. Now if a guy got any of those tattoos where the girl got her tattoos people who see the guy as less of a man or think he’s gay. And the same goes for a girl in a sense if a girl gets a tattoo where I guy would normally get one it would look manly on a girl and way less attractive, but it also depends on what the certain tattoo is that either person gets. Depending on the tattoo you get shows who you are as a person sometimes.

The reasons why people make up so many stories about why they got their tattoo is because most likely they really don’t have one main reason for getting it or to cover up their face, so they wont look like an fool about stating the real reason of getting it in the first place. Like if you ask many people now and days why they got their tattoo some people may say I don’t know it just looks cool, or they may rarely say I’m trying to conform to my friends I don’t want to be an outcast. But if you really think about it 10 to 1 you would never hear somebody say I got this tattoo to fit in they will always be incognito about it and come up with a billion other reasons why they got the tattoo, in order to cover up their face.

HW 30

What are the sources of this sense of meaninglessness but also of the need for a sense of meaning?


I agree that all humans seem to have an overwhelmingly share a sense of emptiness, because all humans try to find something in our lives in order to make ourselves happy or what ever the case might be. Most people now and days try to find to find a way to play the heroic role in our lives in order to make us feel better about ourselves or in order to become “famous” and feel superior. Other people try to find love in their lives also because the feeling of being alone to them is most likely boring so they must find a partner in their lives in order to feel good, and also happy. On the other hand people try to live in honor so most likely people would be patriotic in order to be honored by people around them, since people in the military get a lot of respect and honor for their duties of helping their country. Then the rest of us try to live a story and make sure their life is perfect and that their happy as can be without no problems at all in their life, basically the rest of the people out their want to live a happy ever after story, which is pretty much impossible not to go through challenges in our lives because then we will never learn or become wiser without certain experiences in life. In order to reach this so called goals we try our hardest to please others around us instead of thinking about ourselves first. We work way to hard to meet this requirements that some of us do something extreme in order to get on the news to feel popular and more out there, like when people see a news broadcaster in the street you realize that some people act like their not even there while some people make faces or wave in order to get attention and feel more full and get more “out” there. For instance psychologist Clive Hazell states that “attributes feelings of emptiness to problematic family backgrounds with abusive relationships and mistreatment. He claims that some people who are facing a sense of emptiness try to resolve their painful feelings by becoming addicted to a drug or obsessive activity (be it compulsive sex, gambling or work) or engaging in "frenzied action" or violence. In sociology, a sense of emptiness is associated with social alienation of the individual. This sense of alienation may be suppressed while working, due to the routine of work tasks, but during leisure hours or during the weekend, people may feels a sense of "existential vacuum" and emptiness.” This shows that people try many ways in order to feel more full in their life more out there they try to cope with the emptiness feelings in our lives that we try anything or go that extra mile.
